The Japanese language and the way it is used does not exist in isolation from Japanese culture. The study of behavior and beliefs connected to the Japanese culture and the attitudes toward the Japanese language highlight this interrelationship. Culture-specific behavior can be explained by the study of the Japanese language and culture. Inhibition, a personality trait shown to hinder progress in learning a second language, may be a common personality trait among Japanese ESL students. The ESL teacher in Japan has the responsibility of lowering inhibitions in the classroom. |
