It has been reported that Kagoshima Prefecture is one of the lowest in the students, physical standards. We made some research on the actual condition of the school feeding for growing junior high school students. The research tells us as follows. Caloric intake is below the national average. But sugar intake alone is outstandingly above it. Protein intake is generally below and so is protein score. Animal protein is insufficient and soybean protein, though much of it is taken, is still below the standard. Fat is generally sufficient but mineral (Ca) and Vitamin are below the standard. In the isolated islands the improvement of food life is strongly desired by a sufficient supply of milk and dairy as well as fresh fruit and vegetables. |
