We chose four hundred and twenty five women as subjects of our examination (those ranging from twenty to fifty nine in age of whom we had made a cross-sectional study during the years from 1980 to 1981) and devided them into the eight classes, each comprised of those from twenty to twenty four, twenty five to twenty nine in age. and so forth respectively. and examined how their somatotypes tend to change as they grow old. The following are the results : - (1) The women in their twenties have the greatest average height, that is, 155 cm, those in their thirties more than 152cm, and those ranging from fifty five to fifty nine in age the smallest, that is, 149.4cm. Their average heights tend to decrease markedly as they grow old. Their social background when they were growing up into womenhood is, we suppose, one of the main causes of it. (2) As for the three girths of all of their trunk, women in their twenties have the smallest average girths and these girths grow rapidly greater when they are in their earlier thirties, but after it they do not grow great so markedly up till the age of earlier forties, and once again during the age from the latter forties to the earlier fifties these girths grow greater with significant differences. That is, the trunks of grown-up women tend to grow gradually. (3) We compared the indeces of the bust girth, waist girth and the hip girth to the height of the women of all the classes and found that in respect of these three girths the women in their earlier thirties and earlier fifties have the greater average girths by the p<0.1 significant differences than those in their latter twenties and latter forties. This means that they tend to have the greater girths of their trunk as they grow old. |
