A Report concerning the Historical Maps in the Collections of the Kagoshima Pref. Library, and of the Institute for the Compilation of Historical Materials of TOKYO Univ. : These important properties show us the actual Views and the Plans for the Street System of Castle Towns in the Satsuma Domain. The first four maps seem to be the earliest Maps approximately made during the 'KANBUN' years (1661-1672), and to be aimed to describe the 'TOJOU' (Castles) and its 'FUMOTO' (Settlementes). The next four maps (and more) described precisely in Street Systems evidence techniques of mapping close to modern mapping techniques. |
