In order to grasp the trend of variation in the juvenile bodily structure we measured the breadths of the waist and the hip, the depths of the waist, the hip, and the breast, and the biacromial breadths of girls (one hundred and forty-seven junior high school students and one hundred thirty-nine senior high school students) which were photographed on the negative pictures. We also measured their heights and took their weights. After this we examined these breadths, depths, heights and weights from the points both of chronological age and of the secondary sexual character, that is, the first menses. The following are the results of the examination. (1) The peak of the variation curve on the graph standing for stature indicates the chronological age of sixteen or seventeen years, or the age of the first menses + four years. (2) The peak of the variation curve standing for weight indicates the chronological age of seventeen years, or the age of the first menses + four years. (3) In the case of the biacromial breath, the curve of the secondary sexual character runs a little above that of chronological age up until the peak. But after the peak the two curves run almost similarly. (4) The curve of chronological age standing for the breadth of the waist, the hip, and for the depth of the breast, the waist, the hip, runs almost as similarly as that of the secondary sexual character. These curves show nearly the same trend of variation in the juvenile bodily structure. |
