In order to examine the somatotypes of the human flank, we, in 1974 and 1975,measured ninety-four women students (from eighteen to twenty years old) and fifty girls (fifteen years old) by means of the Type II silhouetter. We measured their bust angle, posterior waist angle, hip angle, chest depth, waist depth, and hip depth. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. The order of the average degree of the angles of the two groups is : (1) bust angle, (2) hip angle, (3) posterior waist angle. The women show higher average degree of bust angle than the girls with 1% of level of significance, but the girls show the higher average degree of hip angle and posterior waist angle, with 5% of level of significance in the former case. 2. The order of the average saggital depths of the two groups is (1) hip depth, (2) bust depth, (3) waist depth, and little difference was recognized between the women and the girls in regard to these three depths, with 1% of level of significance respectively. |
